Lisbon, in the 1960s. It's not easy being 10 and thinking that you're already grown up when everyone calls you "kid" every day. Luckily, there's football to fill the free time and nourish the "kid's" dream that he will one day be as famous as Pele or Eusebio. But, all of sudden, things change. His brother, hounded by the political police, suddenly has to leave Portugal. The "Kid" ends up in the distant countryside, with Dolores. His whole world falls apart. Why do they want to shatter his football career and "bury him in the sticks"? He runs off to Lisbon and, alone and lost in the city, meets Ana, a pretty clarinetist.
