THE ARTISTS AND THE PARTY 1945-1968

Directors Yves Riou and Philippe Pouchain draw us into the story of the "road companions", the French artists who followed or joined the French Communist Party from the liberation of France in 1945 to 1968. In a world then divided between two blocks and a country in complete reconstruction, crowned with the glory of the resistance, the "Party" offered a unique and romantic new horizon.

Picasso, Yves Montand, Simone Signoret, among others, became speakers for the Party. The paths are singulars and contrasted, but numerous painters, poets, actors and singers joined in the collective hope of an egalitarian world and better tomorrows, at the risk of a greater disappointment when the Soviet tanks entered Budapest, then Prague...
